Let me introduce Dove and Boweevil. They are noted as one of the best acoustic blues duos in East Anglia fronted by Lauren Dove and Mark Howes on acoustic and Dobro guitar. Some could easily argue that Norfolk could well be England's answer to the Delta where rivers and skies stretch as far as the eye can see. It is those vast and lonely landscapes that have influenced the earthy sound of Mark 'Boweevil' Howes and the soaring tones of Lauren Dove. When listening to Dove and Boweevil you hear echoes of such artists as Eric Bibb, Susan Tedeschi, Howling Wolf and Son House. There is smoky soul within this angelic voice well complimented by Mark Howes with rasping authenticity. Dove and Boweevil have earned a fine reputation over the past three years culminating in the recent completion of their debut album 'Getting Somewhere'. That 'somewhere' was found to resonate in an inspirational three month trip to the USA which showcased their dedication and passion for the blues. Whilst pursuing the sounds of the blues in New Orleans, Austin, Memphis and Nashville, Lauren was awarded second place in a songwriting competition at Eddie's Attic in Atlanta in which she competed against twenty-five other acts before joining Mark in Chicago. Playing with some of Chicago's most experienced performers they ended their stay in the city of blues with a performance at Buddy Guy's Legends. Moving through Detroit to Canada, Mark also wowed the crowds when asked to reprise his playing at The Windsor Blues Festival. Since their return they have impressed audiences with their 'refreshing' style of blues. Their debut album 'Getting Somewhere' captures the barren wilderness of Norfolk with the spirited energy of a southern saloon and the uplifting calmness of a gospel ballad. Dove and Boweevil's blues career to date has brought nothing but excitement. Having joined fellow accomplished Norfolk blues act The Oli Brown Band on his UK tour they have also supported Ramon Goose, The Dave Thomas Band, D66 and Bryn Christopher and have played at The Maverick Festival, Newark Blues Festival and the Future Blues Project, Glastonbury. High octane rocking blues - A solid testament to the enduring power and influence of Blues Rock - especially the variety in which a wailing Fender Stratocaster comes front and centre. Inspired by the classic guitar-driven blues rock of the late 60's and 70's, Cornish power trio Devils Creek are keeping alive the time honoured traditions first forged by greats such as Rory Gallagher, Ten Years After and Johnny Winter. Formed in 2006, and fronted by maverick guitarist/vocalist Guy Rosewall, the band features a crack rhythm section in bassist Tim Chapple and drummer Alan Ibbotson. The band have released three albums on their own label (Top of the Hill). The 2008 debut album "Bullfrog Blues" combined a classic approach with an attack favoured by heavy rock, particularly evident in the ltra heavy bass sound not normally heard in the genre. Featuring a hard driving electric version of Rory Gallagher's "Seven Days" which would surely make the late great Irish guitarist proud, the entire offering is a solid testament to the enduring power and influence of blues inflected rock. 2010 saw the release of the bands second album "Working the Chains". The album received a good deal of airplay, including Rick Wakeman's Planet Rock show. The band's latest album "th3rds" was released in April 2011.The band has gigged solidly since 2006, and this years gigs include The Welsh International Bike Show, The Bideford Blues Festival, dates in Germany, as well as a multitude of pub/club gigs!!
